NATIONAL AWARD TO TEACHERS - 2021

Mrs. Achala Verma, Dean Academics of Birla Balika Vidyapeeth Pilani, is conferred with the coveted National Teacher Award 2021 by the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India. The Award was given by His Excellency, the President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind, in a virtual ceremony on 5th Sept 2021.

Mrs. Achala Verma, PGT Mathematics and Dean Academics, Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani received the National Award to Teachers 2021 from Honorable President of India Shri Ramnath Kovind on Teachers Day the 5th September 2021 in a virtual ceremony organized by Ministry of Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India. The Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi also felicitated the Awardees virtually on 7th September 2021. She was also felicitated by Shri P K Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary of Education, Govt. of Rajasthan, Department of School Education and Literacy, and by Umar Deen Khan IAS, District Magistrate, Jhunjhunu and Jagdish Prasad Gour, Additional District Megistrate, Jhunjhunu.

Mrs. Achala Verma is conferred with National Award to Teachers 2021 being nominated by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi shortlisted by National Level Screening Committee and Independent Jury framed by Ministry of Education, Government of India. Mrs. Achala Verma is awarded for her commendable work as a Maths teacher with active pedagogy. She has made learning Maths relevant and enjoyable through a variety of experiential learning activities, integrated learning of maths with sports and the arts. Through interdisciplinary projects, she has made learning Maths contextual, easy and interesting. The importance of Maths in life is further understood by the intervention of alumni students who share how they used Maths in their professions. Her efforts have led students to succeed in many prestigious competitive exams.

Mrs. Achala Verma is M.Sc., M.Phil. (Mathematics), B.Ed. and M.Ed. She has been a passionate Mathematics teacher for past 26 years creating interest in the subject, inculcating values and discipline, empowering students, assist students to choose suitable path and ensure happy learning environment. By organizing conferences, lectures by eminent personalities in the field of Mathematics, organizing International Trip to NASA, MIT & Harvard and interactions with Alumna in the field, she inspired students to pursue Mathematics in higher education.

Pandemic was not a hindrance instead an opportunity for her creative teaching along with regular online classes supplemented with videos and using free apps and online maths tools, she organized virtual activities like online panel quiz, career counselling sessions and initiated Maths Blog to display students creative work.

She strongly believes in sharing skills and experiences with peer teachers. Loves to explore new opportunities and participate in School developmental projects. She has presented as Resource during Faculty Development Program organized by Birla Education Trust and Webinars on National Education Policy 2020 by Council for Creative Education, Krushar Foundation, Hyderabad and Global Education Awards.

She joined Birla Balika Vidyapeeth in 1997 and has performed several additional responsibilities important among them are Senior Academic Coordinator, ICT Lead Teacher, School IPSC Representative, NABET Accreditation Coordinator, Continuous and Comprehensive CCE Coordinator, CBSE Coordinator, NCC Care taker and Core Member of Maths Club. She is an active member of School Management Committee, member of Hubs of Learning, Lead Collaborator School. Her services for successful implementation of CCE from 2009 to 2015 is appreciable and as Accreditation Coordinator has achieved National Accreditation Board on Education and Training (NABET) Accreditation by Quality Council of India for Birla Balika Vidyapeeth in 2019.

Mrs. Achala Verma has assisted Dr. M. Kasturi, Chief Nodal Practical Supervisor, CBSE for smooth conduct of AISSE Class XII Practicals in Jhunjhunu region from 2015 to 2020. She was Examiner & Coordinator for CBSE Class X Spot Evaluation for more than 10 years. Assisted in conduct of AISSCE & AISSE Examinations at Birla Balika Vidyapeeth in 2009 & 2010, Deputy Centre Superintendent for Rajasthan Pre-Engineering Test 2009 to 2013 and JEE Advance 2014.

Mrs. Achala Verma is an active member of Council for Creative Education, Finland, qualified NABET Assessor and has bagged Digital Teaching Quotient Badge by Centre for Teacher Accreditation CENTA in 2020.

She has several awards to her credit:

• Most Progressive Coordinator of the Year 2020 by Global Awards in association with Edunation TV

• Innovative Teacher of the year 2020 by Kitecraft Productions

• School Best Teacher in 2013 and BET Best Teacher in 2020 by Birla Education Trust

• Performance Incentive award for securing benchmark in 2015, 2019 and 2020.

• Best Teacher Award for one of her student securing full marks in CBSE/ ICSE Pariksha by Rachna Sagar Pvt. Ltd. In 2007 and 2008.

Mrs. Achala Verma has contributed a chapter on “Medical mathematics” in a book on “Fundamentals of Biotechnology” by Nova Publications, USA. Her Paper on “Evolving Education System: Role of Parents and Teachers” is published in an e-book Creativity New Normal by Council for Creative Education, Finland. She has conducted research on the topic “Trend Analysis of Class XII Result” published by Birla Balika Vidyapeeth. She has played key role as Editor for School Annual Report from 2009 to present. She was the Editor of School Newsletter “Zenith” from 2009 to 2014. She has authored the “School Quality manual”, “School Health manual”, School Examination Policy”, “School Safety manual” and a book on Standard Operating Procedures as part of School NABET accreditation Process during 2018 - 19.

Mrs. Achala Verma in her 24 years at Birla Balika Vidyapeeth has motivated and mentored many students to pursue mathematics and related field for higher studies. She feels satisfied when her students grow as good human beings, and are able to judge their capabilities, choose correct path and contribute positively to the country.
