Educational excursion to Italy, Lithuania and Netherland - June 2019
In keeping with its cherished ideal of Internationalism and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, 24 students from Birla Balika Vidyapeeth visited Italy, Lithuania and Netherland on an eleven day Educational excursion from June 4 -14, 2019. In Italy the students had a rich interaction with their peer group while exploring Florence, Siena, Pisa, the Vatican City and Pompeii. They experienced the grandeur of medieval Europe in Florence and Sienna. Still lying in the shadows of the Visuvius, the ravished city of Pompeii took them back to A.D. 79 when a lava flow had engulfed the region. The ancient Roman way of life was evident in the ruins of Pompeii. The great Vatican City, the smallest country of the world, opened its treasures for the lucky Vidyapeethians. The star attraction was the Leaning Tower of Pisa, one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Piazza del Duomo (Square of Miracles).
In Lithuania the students had an opportunity to explore the capital city of Vilnius, and the financial hub Kaunas. They got a chance to experience ice-skating with some of them proving gifted at the game. Their interaction with the Kaunas Collegia and the opportunities of higher education it offers, their visit to Vilnius Art School and the Galleria were the highlight of the stay. The Down Town Forest lodge where they were staying gave them a chance to know the bio-diversity in Lithuania. Vilnius turned out to be a clean, safe and viable option for higher studies, and groundwork was done in that direction.
With its beautiful waterways and heritage architecture, Amsterdam was a delight, more so because of the interaction with Mr. Leo Strong, the Director of Higher Education, who discussed the educational opportunities in Netherlands. Time spent in the Rijsk Museum with the great Masters - Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Waterloo - was cherished by all. Hopping on trams, visiting farm houses, culinary explorations – Amsterdam was a dream destination.
It is said, ‘'Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.' The students have come back with a thousand tales to share with their school fraternity. The students thanked the Director, BET Major General S.S. Nair and Principal Dr. M. Kasturi for having given them this incredible opportunity that broadened their horizon and made them true citizens of the world.
