My preparation for Mathematics as a Class X board student at Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani, has involved self-discipline, practice, and increasing self-assurance. As board exams draw near, attending an all-girls Residential school provides a structured and focused learning environment.
On a personal level, I discovered how to maximize the school schedule. Formulae, theorems, and important concepts were revised during morning preparation, and questions were only solved during evening preps. This equilibrium between practice and review turned out to be crucial.
The overall academic endeavors at the school had a great effect on our preparation for the exams. Regular mock tests and quizzes made us familiar with the format of the paper and overcame our fear of exams. Answering MCQs was made easier when I understood the knack of carefully reading the question, and not rushing through the answers. While answering FAQs and short-answer questions, we were instructed on the importance of providing accurate and step-by-step solutions in proper Mathematical terminology. Case-based questions were made simpler by practicing question banks on CBQs repeatedly. By breaking down the case and establishing correlations between the data and concepts, our logical ability was developed.
Sample papers and previous years’ questions (PYQs) are given top priority. Working on extra questions apart from textbook questions is just a necessity in Mathematics because it is a subject which flourishes with time, practice, and experience.
The atmosphere in the Residential school brings its own strength to the table. There is no distraction, the student spends set hours studying, peersโ debate, and our teacher Mrs. Savitri Dhayal is always there to guide. It has immense benefits for the average student and helps to improve performance.
Most importantly, Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani teaches that we should never take stress. If we are calm, we will be able to recall even tougher concepts. It will automatically reduce stress.
And so, for every Class X student who has boards before them, I can confidently say from my own experience that Mathematics is definitely not something to be afraid of; rather, it is something to be mastered.
Boards are important, but with discipline, practice, and calmness, they are achievable.
