National Science Day Celebrations: Women in Science Catalyzing the Vision of Viksit Bharat

On 28 February 2026, Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani, marked National Science Day with an inspiring guest lecture on the theme “Women in Science: Accelerating the Vision of a Developed India.” The session was delivered by Dr. Rishikesh Vaidya, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, BITS Pilani.

The programme commenced with a gracious welcome and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In her thoughtful address, Principal Mrs. Achala Verma eloquently emphasized the expanding horizons for women in science, portraying their participation as a driving force behind progressive and inclusive nation-building. She highlighted how such academic engagements cultivate scientific temper, ignite curiosity, and empower young minds to pursue excellence with confidence and purpose.

A noteworthy highlight of the programme was a student presentation on the life and contributions of the Nobel Laureate Sir C. V. Raman, which beautifully encapsulated the essence of scientific inquiry, perseverance, and dedication.

Dr. Vaidya’s lecture proved both enriching and thought-provoking. He elaborated on the vast scope of science and emphasized curiosity, critical thinking, and experimentation as the cornerstones of a scientific mindset. Encouraging students to move beyond conventional boundaries, he underlined the relevance of science in addressing real-world challenges.

Reflecting on the rapidly evolving global landscape of science and technology, Dr. Vaidya underscored the indispensable role of women in shaping a developed and self-reliant India. He shared inspiring examples of eminent Indian women scientists who, through resilience and determination, have made remarkable contributions to the scientific community, motivating students to aspire beyond limitations.

Organised by the Science Department under the guidance of Mrs. Anita Mishra, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks and presentation of a memento, leaving students inspired and intellectually invigorated.
