I never would have believed that learning Mathematics won’t be felt like studying at all. What if it happened naturally—while helping your mother in the kitchen, watering plants in the garden, or playing your favourite games? This summer, Mathematics becomes more than numbers on a page; it becomes a part of my daily life as this creative homework was given by Mathematics Department of Birla Balika Vidyapeeth, Pilani.
1. Helping in Kitchen (Cutting Vegetables)
While helping in cooking, I observed many Mathematical ideas:
Fractions: When an onion is cut into halves or quarters, we use fractions like 1/2, 1/4.
Symmetry: Cutting vegetables into equal parts shows line symmetry.
Measurement: Ingredients are measured using cups and spoons (like grams, ml).
Math is used in cooking to ensure equal portions and correct quantities.
2. Playing Badminton
While playing badminton, I noticed:
Angles: The direction in which the shuttle is hit forms angles.
Speed & Distance: The shuttle travels different distances with different speeds.
Counting & Scores: Points are counted using numbers.
Math helps in improving accuracy and tracking scores in games.
3. Watering Plants
While watering plants in the garden:
Measurement of Water: Estimating how much water each plant needs.
Time: Watering regularly involves understanding time intervals.
Patterns in Nature: Leaves and plant growth show patterns and symmetry.
Math helps us take care of nature efficiently.
4. Skipping Rope Activity
While skipping rope with family:
Counting Numbers: Counting number of skips (1, 2, 3…).
Multiplication: Skipping in sets (like 5 skips × 4 rounds = 20 skips).
Time & Rhythm: Maintaining a steady rhythm involves timing.
Math improves coordination and counting skills in physical activities.
5. Playing Board Games
While playing indoor games:
Probability: Chance of getting a number on dice.
Counting Moves: Moving pieces based on numbers.
Strategy & Logic: Planning moves requires logical thinking.
Math helps in decision-making and logical reasoning.
Conclusion:
Mathematics is not just a subject in books—it is everywhere in our daily life. From cooking to playing, from nature to games, Math helps us think, measure, and solve problems.
